Despite its natural origins, some use cases can encourage harmful environmental practices such as deforestation and chemical pollution. Our nanocellulose materials on the other hand, are derived from bacteria — an abundant biomass source that is non-toxic, plastic-free, renewable and infinitely recyclable 🧫

This week we welcomed some friendly faces into our office and lab space for the first time and already it feels more like home 🏠
It was important to us that we marked the start of this next chapter with the people who have helped us get to where we are. Along with some of our local neighbours, we were reunited with former team members and close friends to show them around, share what we've been up to since we moved in and to reflect on our #biomaterials journey so far.
Not to mention enjoying delicious vegan food, washed down with sustainably brewed Kombucha from @labrewery and planet-saving beer from @toastale.
We can't wait to create more memories here as the team and our community continues to grow. Thank you to everyone who has supported us along the way!

What is the Circularity Gap and how do we close it? ♾️
The Circularity Gap Report measures the state of circularity in the global economy. According to this year’s report, the global economy is getting LESS circular year-on-year driven by rising material extraction and use of virgin resources.
🆘 The global economy was 9.1% circular in 2018, it is now measured as only 7.2% circular in 2023
🚮 This means more than 90% of materials used will be wasted, lost, or remain unavailable for reuse
✅ Material solutions like ours can close the loop on resource flows and dramatically reduce material consumption and waste in fashion and beyond
♻️ The microbes which form the basis of our textiles can be grown using agricultural waste streams as feedstocks, enabling fully circular production

We collaborate with bacteria on a daily basis to form our next-generation textiles, which means paying extra special attention to what they need in order to grow.
Our team is fluent in the love languages of a particular strain of bacteria, K.Rhaeticus, which produces an amazing microbe called bacterial nanocellulose. This particularly strong and fine strand of cellulose really is the beating heart of our biomaterial platform.
